L-Scan Limitations: Lateral Coverage

Limitations

The lateral coverage is limited by:

  1. The total number of elements in the probe and their size
  2. The number of elements used to generate each beam. The higher the number of elements used, the bigger the dead zone at each end of the probe
  3. Example 1; if 8 elements of 1 mm pitch are used, the size of the dead zone is 4 mm on each side of the probe leaving 24 mm of effective coverage
  4. Example 2; if 12 elements of 1 mm are used, the size of the dead zone is 6 mm on each side of the probe leaving 20 mm of effective coverage
