Limitations
The lateral coverage is limited by:
- The total number of elements in the probe and their size
- The number of elements used to generate each beam. The higher the number of elements used, the bigger the dead zone at each end of the probe
- Example 1; if 8 elements of 1 mm pitch are used, the size of the dead zone is 4 mm on each side of the probe leaving 24 mm of effective coverage
- Example 2; if 12 elements of 1 mm are used, the size of the dead zone is 6 mm on each side of the probe leaving 20 mm of effective coverage
